Adam received his new heart on October 1, 2007! |
Hi! My name is Adam Trumble.
I was born July 26th, 2005 - happy, healthy, ten perfect toes, ten perfect fingers. I have two older sisters, Laura and Emily, a wonderful mommy and a cool daddy who is a firefighter for the city of Milwaukee. My first year-and-a-half was full of playtime and fun, but last winter I started getting sick all the time and having trouble breathing. I was admitted to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, and was diagnosed with a heart condition. Medication did not help and further tests revealed that I have a rare heart disease known as restrictive cardiomyopathy, for which there is no cure. My only hope is a heart transplant.
I have now been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit since July 6th, 2007 waiting for a new heart. On July 13th, my heart failed and I was put on a heart lung bypass machine (ECMO). Then I was given a Berlin Heart Pump (L-VAD) so that my lungs and the rest of my body would have an opportunity to recover before the transplant. I am lucky because the FDA has approved this pump on a trial basis at only ten hospitals in the United States. I am growing stronger and more active with each passing day as we await my new heart.
I have made lots of new friends at the hospital and love playing with mommy all day, but these months have not been easy for my family. The single cost of a transplant often exceeds $500,000, so my family needs financial assistance to help keep me healthy. An estimated $80,000 is being raised by Wisconsin volunteers to help with these enormous medical bills. And 100% of all funds raised will be used exclusively for my medical expenses. We appreciate all that can be done in an effort to assist us with the enormous costs involved in these life saving procedures. Here are some ways you can help: GoodSearch and GoodShop - Help Raise Funds for Adam by Searching and Shopping Online |
Thanks to all of you, we have reached our initial goal of $80,000. This amount will take care of Adam's first year expenses post transplant. |
